The Dinner Party Institute 2013-My Experience

The Dinner Party by Judy Chicago

How many women artists do you incorporate in your curriculum? Classroom displays? Discussions? How many women throughout history have been used in your school? What are we missing?

I must say, if you are an art educator and have not heard, taken, or seen Judy Chicago's work or the Dinner Party Institute at Kutztown University then you are missing out on not only a wonderful opportunity to learn, but an opportunity to see the importance of woman in our history.

This past week has been inspiring, eye opening, comforting, empowering, and exactly what I NEEDED!!! Not only have I grown as an educator, but it has allowed me to grow as a woman. As an undergrad and now a graduate student at Kutztown University, it has been such an honor to work with some of the best art educators, artists, and art connoisseurs. Welcoming, refreshing, and inspirational; All the things we need as life-long learners, women, educators, and artists.

FEMINISM! Do you know what it is? Do you know what it means? Before this week, I never considered my self feminist nor did I use the word in my vocabulary. It is not a bad word, it is not anti-male, and it is not radical. It simply means equality, choice, and voice. So if all of the above is new conversation to you, and it's as if you just read French when you never heard a word of it in your life, then check out the links below and challenge YOUR conceptions.
