The Rainbow Fish: 1st Grade

Since this year's theme was "The Art of the Picture Book" I did a lesson on The Rainbow Fish story. This lesson I did a few years ago and have not used in a long time. I revamped it and integrated a wide range of content. This lesson included the following topics of study:
1. Cool Colors
2. Friendship, Caring, Sharing, Teamwork, Together
3. Texture, Imprint, Relief, Clay, Sculpture
4. Writing and Literature(Reading the story, writing-see worksheet below)

Sorry about these images below, I couldn't figure out how to rotate them but basically they are note cards that are labeled with fish parts and on the back of each card is the function of each fish part. Students received a card and had to walk up to the enlarged fish poster and label the parts and explain what the parts characteristic is.

1st and 2nd Grade Van Gogh Sunflowers!

A Huge THANK YOU to the many Instagram followers! Follow me on Instagram for up-to-date and current capturing moments exploring art, art education, and creativity of an art teacher!
This is an image of one of my students in the process of creating her painting. She still needs to add the beautiful red vase in!

I conducted two different Van Gogh inspired projects with first and second grade. The first grade students painted on canvas and the 2nd grade students painted on recycled cardboard pizza trays that were donated from the lunch room! Each were given the same set of instructions with a focus on observation, still life, creating tints and shades. Students then focused on using their paint brushes properly and blending creating their own color palate.

The Southern York County District Art Show 2015

In our school district, not only do I have my elementary art show/curriculum fair but I also have a district art show with art work featured from all the schools (elementary, middle, and high) of K-12 student work. It is one night and this year we were able to set up the night before. Everything then must immediately be taken down as soon as the event ends that evening. Selected works from our individual schools shows are put on display and it is a night where many of the creative art forms are show cased! Enjoy the amazing work of these incredible students.

This year the art teachers featured their own works on display as well.

These are two amazing woman who helped make this show a success! Bravo!
