2nd Grade students were learning about rural, suburban, and urban areas in their social studies class. They were learning about the distinct features and characteristics each different area has and what particular parts distinguish separation between each other.
As an integration lesson I had students choose either a suburban, rural, or urban area. They then sat with a group of students who chose the same topic and had to create numerous ideas on slips of paper that are found in that particular environment. They then put their ideas into the brown paper bag and switched them up with groups to review. Afterwards they had to use those topics as inspiration for their urban, rural, or suburban story. They then had to describe the elements of their story visually through the creation of a tunnel book! Check out these stunning results :)
